FOREWARD

This book "Sri Satyanarayana Puja" has been released with the blessings of our Sadguru His Holiness Sri Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji. Sri Satyanarayana Puja book is available in  languages like Telugu, Hindi etc. I hope the release of this English version will be useful to many devotees.

Satyanarayana Puja or Katha is a regular ritual throughout India, which is required affair before or after every important occasion like marriage, housewarming, etc. Since this worship includes worship to Navagrahas (nine planets), Pancaloka palakas and Ashtadikpalakas it is very powerful and beneficial. I have strived to explain the above worship in detail in this book.

Similar to Lord Dattatreya, Lord Satyanarayana has incarnated as the form of Trinity (Brahma, Visnu, Siva) in a place known as Annavaram, in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. Here the Lord is known as Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swami. The two-tier temple is atop a hill.

At the lower shrine the pilgrims have to first worship at the feet of the Lord. It is here that a unique "Yantra" was installed. This is said to be the form of Brahma. The "Yantra" is based on the Tripada Vibhuti Narayana Upanishad, which is part of the Devarshi Sakha of the Atharva Veda.

The devotees visit the upper temple to have the Darshan of the Lord Satyanarayana, the form of Visnu and His Consort, Sri Rama Devi, who is the form of Goddess Laxmi. Lord Siva is adjacent to Lord Satyanarayana, thus completing the Trinity. The holy river Pampa flows at the foot of the hill as if washing the feet of the Lord. Archanas to the idols and to the 'Yantra ' conducted thrice a day regularly, besides very powerful Salagramams and the crystal Chakra.' The temple is constructed in the shape of a chariot with four wheels on its sides. Lord Rama is considered the KshetraPalaka (ruler) of this place. Besides Rama temple, there are shrines for Vana Durga and Kanaka Durga. Vana Durga is said to be guarding the shrine. Annavaram Satyanarayana Swami is merciful and He will not disappoint His devotees.

My ancestors and relatives were the main priests in the Annavaram shrine, which is a source of all sanctity. Their descendants are still continuing the tradition. In this Kaliyuga, this temple is considered one of the most important and powerful temples.
